BAWSE \’baus\ n: a person who exudes confidence, hustles relentlessly, reaches goals and smiles genuinely because he or she has fought through it all and made it out the other side.
I just finished the How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life by Lilly Singh, a.k.a. iiSuperwomanii, the popular YouTuber. And it was awesome. I have to admit I haven’t been one of her YouTube followers, but I found the book exciting and awesome. Something worth taking seriously.
It’s written like a conversation. It feels real and unapologetically in your face. As it says from the very beginning. Besides the amazing design and colourful pages, the book is filled with real-life examples and another perspective at how to conquer your life. For me, it meant a boost of confidence and a joyful way to rethink about some things.
“Life is like one giant YouTube video: it’s amazing to experience, but when too many things are happening at once, you begin to lag. You try waiting it out, but sure enough, the lagging just gets worse and worse. […] So what do you do? Pause the video and regroup. Once you’ve had a moment to load up, press play again, and see how much your quality has improved.”
Even if you don’t know her from YouTube, to begin with, you’ll find the book entertaining and filled with happy thoughts and a very chill vibe. I loved the fact that she writes about her own experience and not just repeating some random guidelines. It’s not something I was expecting, to be honest. Some parts of it were somewhat rough but needed. It helps you become, or keep yourself organised and focused. Let go of hate and focus on what is making you happy in your life.
Be Unapologetically Yourself
One of those books you can pick up, open at random, and read a bit to get a thrust of energy and good vibes. Plenty of aha moments that make you stop and think how this can apply to your own experience.

“When people ask me for advice about the digital space, I always start by saying, ‘I can tell you about the route I took, but I’m not familiar with the entire map.’ I say that because I believe new paths can be created every single day.”
We also get a first-row ticket to the movie of her success, from the darker beginning until the warm light of studio lights. Also how she overcame her own fears in order to step up to the best version herself possible. It’s nice to see how she observed people’s behaviours and tried to better herself by adopting good traits from people within the business and learning from the best.
I found it very inspirational and hope I can apply many of the principles and lessons from it in my own life. I do recommend it and find it a useful and optimistic book. Hope you can enjoy it as much as I did.
